After living in Pittsburgh and Houston, two cities with a very vibrant food scene, I was used to great restaurants, cafes, bars and the like.  I had my favorite places and was a regular at certain spots.  As a relatively new San Antonian, I want to re-create my dining rotation here.  Yelp, Urbanspoon, and CitySearch don’t seem to be as reliable here as they were in Houston…

For a new kid on the block, its really hard to find good places (beyond the millions of chain restaurants ).  So this is my San Antonio restaurant review list.  Hopefully this will help other people new to San Antonio — and people who just enjoy good food!

My dining reviews are scored on three criteria – Atmosphere, Service and Food – using a numerical system.  The overall score is the average of the three.  If there are several in the dining party, I take the average of everyone’s score.  Here is a key to each score’s meaning:

Scores of 8 to 10 = Fantastic!
Scores of 6 up to 8 = Good Stuff!
Scores of 4 up to 6 = Just OK.
Scores of 3 up to 4 = Meh.
Scores below 3 = Avoid.

On the main dining review page, I try and give an idea of what you can expect in terms of price:

$$$$ = $31 – $50 per person
$$$ = $20 – $30 per person
$$ = $11 – $19 per person
$ = $10 or less per person
