About

I started The San Antonio Palate in 2011 when my husband and I moved to San Antonio for my job. We lived in Houston for several years and had our favorite restaurants, cafes, bars and the like.  We kept track of dining adventures as we ate our way through San Antonio. The hope was that The San Antonio Palate would help other people new to San Antonio — and people who just enjoy good food — find their own favorite little spot for eats and drinks!

Four years later, the San Antonio food scene is much different than when we first arrived. Before, it was hard to find the gems among all of the chain restaurants.  Now, there is so much culinary talent, it’s hard to keep up!

I do not get paid for reviews, nor do I accept free food.  The reviews are my own opinion and those of my friends dining with me. My dining reviews are scored on three criteria – Atmosphere, Service and Food – using a numerical system.  The overall score is the average of the three.  If there are several in the dining party, I take the average of everyone’s score.  Here is a key to each score’s meaning:

Scores of 8 to 10 = Fantastic and amazing!  Must go!
Scores of 6 up to 8 = Delish!
Scores of 4 up to 6 = Pretty good.
Scores of 3 up to 4 = Meh.
Scores below 3 = Avoid.

On the main dining review page, I try and give an idea of what you can expect in terms of price:

$$$$ = $31 – $50 per person
$$$ = $20 – $30 per person
$$ = $11 – $19 per person
$ = $10 or less per person

  1. Welcome to SA. It’s good to know that we are being read by real food enthusiasts and that our restaurant profiles influence your dining choices. Please feel free to send suggestions for new or cool places you might discover during your culinary adventures in our margarita town. Buen provecho!

    • Thanks Rachel! I do love San Antonio Magazine – signed up for my subscription as soon as we moved here. I am pleased that my little blog caught your attention and I will certainly keep you posted on new/cool places. Thanks for reading!

  2. I’d be interested in hearing your opinion of RoMo, on the corner of Culebra and Ingram. From what I’ve read of your blog, I think y’all would like it. I know I did, and it’s out in Loopland, where y’all seem to hang out a lot, so it’s more convenient to you than most of the places I would recommend.

    • Thanks for the RoMo suggestion. I took a look at their website and the menu looks great! I really also love their “Who We Are” story.
