For those of you that have been following the blog, you know that I have struggled to find a good Mexican place in San Antonio. After several attempts, I was left dreaming about all of the yummy Tex Mex in Houston – until now! We decided to try Rosario’s before an event at the AT&T Center and I was pleasantly surprised. All is not lost!
The first thing I noticed about Rosario’s was the politeness of the staff. There was a slight mixup with the table we were to be seated (it was taken by another party), and the hostess apologized profusely. We were seated about 30 seconds later — and received more apologies for the delay. While we waited for our friends to arrive, we ordered drinks – a watermelon mojito for me and an extra big margarita for J. Both drinks were good, but the mojito had artificial watermelon flavoring… it would taste so much better with fresh watermelon juice, especially since its in season!
Even though we ate about two baskets of chips, we were still craving a little pre-dinner munchie, so we ordered the Super Nachos with chicken and beef fajita meat. I don’t even like nachos and I loved these. The meat definitely made the difference in this dish.
Our friends joined us shortly thereafter, and we ordered a quick dinner before our show. The boys had fajitas, I had the fish tacos, and our friend C had the Sopa de Pozole – lightly seasoned broth, diced pork, hominy and shredded cabbage, garnished with fresh onions, cilantro, oregano, crispy corn chips, which C says is the best in the city. The fajitas also received rave reviews. The fish tacos were ok… a tad salty.
We didn’t have enough time for dessert, but I am interested to see if they have my fave – tres leches! We’ll definitely be back.
