We love steak. I wish I could be vegetarian, I really do. But, I love steak too much. In Houston, we would frequent Del Frisco’s… the steak was perfectly done every time, and had a nice light bit of butter on it (not like Ruth’s Chris where your steak is floating in butter… I love butter, but it can be a bit much)
Any way, we have tried a couple steak places here… Ruth’s Chris (yum, but lots of butter) and Ounce (eh, it’s ok). Overall we were less than impressed. One of my co-workers recommended Myron’s. There is a location in New Braunfels, and the owner, Bill Been, just opened another location at the corner of NW Military and Wurzbach.Over the weekend, J was craving a nice cocktail and steak, so we headed over to Myron’s. Move over Del Frisco’s… Myron’s offers some fantastic steaks!
We started with some cocktails. I had the Myron’s Martini — it tastes like vacation!! The tropical fruit/coconut flavor is divine. Each steak came with a wedge salad with your choice of dressing. We both had bleu cheese… SO good and made in-house! I had a filet medium rare and J had the bone in ribeye. Both cooked to perfection. And, to be honest, Myron’s side dishes kick the butt of any other steak place’s sides. We had the stuffed tomatoes and the jalapeno mac and cheese (so so so good!)
We finished with a bread pudding with Maker’s Mark sauce. We both cleaned our plates, and we are usually the type to take a doggie bag home. (and no, we didn’t eat much of anything on Monday.) Another note – our waiter was great. He was very young, but knew all the rules of serving in a high-end restaurant. We will try a couple of other steak places, but I think Myron’s is our new Del Frisco’s! Thank you Mr. Been!
Update 11/22/11: We went to Myron’s for a second time recently — and Myron’s did not fail us! We took along two good friends – one of which is a former chef that’s worked in some very swank resorts. We started with a round of cocktails… Myron’s Martini again for me. Soo good – and so consistent! The hit of the evening was the wasabi seared tuna. The boys had the escargot and both loved it. We all tried the creamy gorgonzola dressing on the salad… and trust me, do the bleu cheese dressing. J had a Pittsburgh-style sear on his steak which was perfectly done (although he’s decided he doesn’t like Pittsburgh-style sear….*sigh* I say go with what you know you love when you are talking steak.) My filet was perfect just like last time. We were all too full from cocktails, steak and sides to have dessert. So in love with Myron’s!!

Amazing steak. Even better sides. Yummy cocktails. But, save your pennies, this place ain’t cheap. Our total for two steaks, two sides, two cocktails and dessert was about $160 including tip.
