Roll on Over to Sushi Zushi

Roll on over! Get it?!  One thing that’s proving hard to get used to is that many restaurants are in strip malls.  We are missing out on some great places because we generally shy away from strip mall joints.

Years ago, when I was on a work assignment in San Antonio, I used to go to the downtown Sushi Zushi.  We were craving sushi today and I quickly googled Sushi Zushi and found that there was a location really close to our home.  Yay!  So, we set about driving there and missed it!  Then we circled back around and saw the sign.  Tucked in the back of a nondescript strip mall was Sushi Zushi.  We walked in and were pleasantly surprised by the modern and trendy decor.  My little yuppie heart was racing and I was hoping that finally we had found a delicious sushi place!

Stone Oak roll

Once we were seated, we were faced with the massive menu.  So many choices, but we were super hungry, so we asked the waiter for his recommendations.  We decided on the LIR roll – spicy tuna and avocado on the inside, fresh salmon on the outside, drizzled with a yummy sweet and spicy sauce.  The Toreado Crawfish roll – serrano peppers, crab, and avocado topped with broiled crawfish in spicy mayo; and the Stone Oak roll – eel, crab, avocado and cream cheese, tempura fried.  We also ordered a mini curry rice.  Everything came out at at the same time and in short order, looking fantastic!

Tereado Crawfish roll

And, we weren’t disappointed.  Everything was flavorful and delicious… and the raw fish in the LIR roll was extremely fresh.  Even the salmon was fantastic and I am extremely picky about raw salmon. We will definitely be back to Sushi Zushi!!
