Dine Out for No Kid Hungry

Between September 16 and 22, eating out can fill your tummy — and a hungry child’s.  A great idea… but only one high-end restaurant in San Antonio participating!  Yay Bella on the River!  Also on the list are all of the Denny’s, Fuddruckers, Which Wich, Joe’s Crab Shack and Le Madelaine chain locations. The No Kid Hungry campaign uses funds raised to:

  1. Build state- and city-based No Kid Hungry partnerships of public and private decision-makers who develop a measurable action plan to end child hunger in their city or state.
  2. Expand effective assistance, education and advocacy programs operated by local organizations across the country.
  3. Raise awareness about the issue of childhood hunger and the No Kid Hungry strategy to end it.
  4. Educate families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to prepare affordable, healthy meals.

A worthy cause in my books.  Come on, San Antonio restaurants, let’s pitch in!  Learn more.

Bigz Burgers are Giant

We pass Bigz all the time, so I am not sure what took us so long to stop by — especially given our love of all things made from ground meat.  We called beforehand to see if we could bring the pups and guess what?  You can (on the patio of course)!  Dog friendly and delicious — what more could you ask for? Anthony Bourdain in San Antonio

show time!

Whether you love him or hate him, you definitely know him. Anthony Bourdain is coming to San Antonio this November on his Guts & Glory tour.  While not much information has been released on the content of the show, a member of his PR team did share that he will be offering “candid, often hysterical insights about his life’s work and travels, including an open question and answer session with the audience.” I am sure this will be in his usual vulgar style!

Ticket prices range from $32 to $147.  A limited number of VIP tickets are available ($147), which include premier seating, a limited edition tour poster and VIP laminate, and exclusive access to a post-show meet and greet reception featuring complimentary hors d’oeuvres and photo and signing opportunities.

Tickets went on sale yesterday.  Visit TicketMaster to purchase tickets!  We’ll see you there…

Mucho Meat at Chama Gaucha

whoa flames

Tucked away on 1604 by Stone Oak Parkway, it’s easy to miss Chama Gaucha despite the giant sign with the fake flames.  We never would have found our way to the place if our friends hadn’t invited us to meet them for dinner there a few months back.  Since then, we’ve been several times.  I am even willing to forget that Chama Gaucha is a small chain (San Antonio, Houston, Chicago) because it is so yummy.  It’s hard to find any fault at all with an establishment that serves perfectly prepared meat non-stop (until you turn your card to red, of course).. well unless you are a vegetarian.

Il Sogn-overrated

Our mini critic club was back together this Friday for dinner at Il Sogno.  We’ve been once for lunch, and I thought my margarita pizza tasted like Chef Boyardee boxed pizza.. but, everyone raves about this place, so we went back.  I was hopeful when we walked in as it was so bustling and filled with yuppies.  But, hours later, as we cast our votes… it became clear: Il Sogno is overrated.
