La Fogata: Forget It!

Three San Antonio Mexican restaurants have been recommended to me over and over again – Los Barrios (meh), Paloma Blanca (better), and La Fogata (major eww.)  I have other restaurants in my review queue, but I am writing this one first because I feel compelled to let people know, if you are thinking about going, DON’T!  My friend was in town and surprisingly, La Fogata had been recommended to her as well by friends in Houston.  Yelp and Urbanspoon reviews confirmed that this was a good choice.  My question is, are people crazy??? Fredericksburg Weekend: Chisholm Trail Winery

what time is it?

Last weekend, we ventured to Fredericksburg with a great new group of friends.  Even though I have lived in Texas for 8 years, I have never been out to visit the wineries.  Shocking, really, given how much we LOVE wine!  Our plan was to hit up 10 wineries over the course of the day.  We gave up after 5.  Funny enough,  our favorite winery was our first stop – Chisholm Trail Winery.  Continue reading

The Recipe: Myron’s Jalapeño Mac and Cheese

“Jalapeño mac and cheese” is the most popular search term for the San Antonio Palate.  And, it’s no wonder… Myron’s Jalapeño Mac and Cheese is THE best in town.  Last week while dining at Myron’s, we asked our server, Shane, for the recipe.  He gave us a list of ingredients and instructions… but no measurements!  So we guessed.  The result…a good start, but not quite right.  Apparently, the recipe was run in the paper of a few years back — and thanks to the help of my fellow Yelper, Scott C., we now have the real deal recipe!   We will definitely be experimenting again next weekend!!

Modern Seafood at the Sandbar

After a busy work week, J and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner.  We turned to the Fearless Critic guide for dining inspiration.  Not in the mood for a dud, we chose the guide’s top pick – Sandbar.  All I can say is “wow.”  J and I definitely agree… Sandbar is a top contender for best restaurant in San Antonio.  Certainly it wins the category of best seafood (Sorry Wildfish!) An Unlikely Spot for a Delicious Burger: Lüke

It’s hard to believe that the best burger I’ve had in town is at Lüke, a restaurant which is fashioned after the “Franco-German brasseries that once dominated New Orleans.”  Burgers are not your standard French, German or New Orleans fare… but who cares?!  Woohoo I finally found a yummy burger!
